"But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart" (Luke 2:19 NKJV)
While the shepherds immediately shared what they had experienced, Mary had a different response. She treasured all these events in her heart, quietly pondering their meaning. Luke the historian asked Mary about these details, and several times it says Mary "treasured these things in her heart."
That word "pondered" means treasured, but it also means putting the pieces of a puzzle together. She's putting it all together. She doesn't understand everything she's seen so far, but she's processing what it all means.
Sometimes God calls us to speak, and sometimes He calls us to listen and reflect. Mary understood that she was witnessing something sacred and eternal. She needed time to process what was happening and understand her role in God's plan.
Pondering God's work in your life is essential for spiritual growth. Taking time to reflect on how God has blessed you, guided you, and worked in your circumstances helps you recognize His faithfulness and builds your faith for the future.
Reflection Question: What recent experiences with God do you need to spend more time pondering and treasuring?
Dear Heavenly Father, help me follow Mary's example of treasuring Your work in my heart. Give me wisdom to know when to speak and when to quietly ponder. Help me take time to reflect on Your faithfulness so that my faith will grow stronger. In Jesus' Name, amen.
