"Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people" (Luke 2:10 NKJV)
Every time an angel appears, the first thing out of their mouth is "Don't be afraid." There was a little boy in a first-grade Christmas pageant who had one line: "It is I, be not afraid." But on the day of the pageant, he got nervous and said, "It's me, and I'm scared to death!"
The angel's message was one of surprise, but it brought great joy.
God loves to interrupt the ordinary times in our lives. Zacharias was faithfully fulfilling his priestly duties when the angel appeared. Do you feel stuck in a routine today? Zacharias was being faithful in his routine, and God spoke in the midst of ordinary service.
God often works through divine interruptions. He breaks into our routines with opportunities to serve, chances to grow, or calls to step out in faith. These interruptions might feel inconvenient at first, but they are gifts from God.
When your plans get changed unexpectedly, ask yourself if God might be redirecting your steps. His interruptions are wonderful gifts from Himself to us.
Reflection Question: How has God interrupted your plans recently, and how might He be working through that interruption?
Dear Heavenly Father, help me welcome Your interruptions in my life. When my plans get changed or unexpected opportunities arise, give me wisdom to recognize Your hand at work. I want to be open to the surprises You have in store. In Jesus' Name, amen.
