"Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love." - Ephesians 1:4 (NKJV)
Have you ever felt like an afterthought? Like you weren't part of the original plan? Nothing could be further from the truth when it comes to your relationship with God. Before Adam and Eve walked in the Garden of Eden, before the first star was hung in place, before anything existed except God Himself, you were on His mind.
This passage tells us that God chose us "before the foundation of the world." That means your salvation wasn't God's backup plan when humanity fell into sin. It wasn't like God was caught off guard, saying, "I didn't expect that. What am I going to do now?" No, your redemption was planned in eternity past.
Think about how this letter to the Ephesians begins. Verses 3 through 14 form a single, continuous sentence in the Greek. It's as if Paul doesn't know where to stop. He is so excited. He's praising God for the salvation that is available to every child of God. Paul can't contain his excitement about this plan that God thought up from eternity past, before the foundations of the earth.
When you feel overlooked or forgotten by others, remember this truth: God has had you in mind since before time began. You're not an accident or a surprise to Him. That's the kind of love that should anchor your heart no matter what storms come your way.
Reflection Question: When have you felt forgotten or overlooked, and how does knowing God chose you before the foundation of the world change your perspective on that situation?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that I was never an afterthought to You. Before You spoke the world into existence, You had me on Your heart and mind. Help me to live each day knowing that I am infinitely loved by You. When I feel forgotten by others, remind me that You have never forgotten me. In Jesus' Name, amen.
