"For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." - 1 Peter 3:12 (NKJV)
Why should we bless instead of retaliate? First, because the Bible says so. Our personal, Christian standard must be: "What does the Bible say?" Second, because God is watching. He sees everything and knows exactly how you've been mistreated. His response? "Forgive, bless, and let Me handle the rest."
Doesn't this lift an enormous weight off your shoulders? You don't have to make sure "they pay for what they did." God's Word promises that He sees, He knows, His ears are open to the righteous, and His face is against evildoers.
Third, because you'll receive a blessing. As you pray God's favor upon someone who has wronged you, God promises to bless you in return. This spiritual blessing is available to every child of God, regardless of who you are or what your background.
The good life isn't about material luxury or leisure - it's about experiencing God's blessing through the harmony, heart, humility, and healing found in 1 Peter 3:8-12. It's about experiencing and expressing the same love that Jesus demonstrated on the cross when He died for our sins. THAT is the good life.
Reflection Question: What "weight" of ensuring justice for wrongs done to you do you need to release to God today? How might trusting God's perfect justice free you to live more fully?
Lord, help me to trust that You see everything and will handle all injustices perfectly. Take the burden of revenge from my shoulders and replace it with the joy of Your blessing. Help me to live the good life You've designed for Your children. In Jesus' Name, amen.
