“And she said, ‘I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.’” - Genesis 24:19
Rebekah is a great example of diligence and a servant’s heart. When Abraham’s servant asked for a drink of water, Rebekah didn’t just stop there. She offered to draw water for his camels as well - his was no small gesture. Drawing water for a group of camels likely took an hour or more of hard work. She didn’t know that her diligence and willingness to go the extra mile would lead her to be part of God’s plan to marry Isaac and have a role in the lineage of Jesus.
Jesus Himself taught the same principle when He said to go the second mile (Matthew 5:41). As believers, we are called to look for ways to exceed expectations and meet needs that others overlook. This kind of diligence sets us apart and brings honor to God.
Reflection Question: Do you look for ways to go the extra mile in serving others, even when it’s not required?
“Lord, thank You for the example of Rebekah. Help me to be someone who sees needs and meets them willingly. Teach me to go the extra mile and serve others with joy, knowing that I am ultimately serving You. In Jesus' Name, amen.”
