"Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this child" (Luke 2:17 NKJV)
The shepherds were given a story, and they understood it was meant to be shared. After encountering Christ, they became the first evangelists. God has given us a story as well - the gift of our testimony.
I remember pastoring a woman in North Carolina who went through multiple hospital visits and doctor appointments. She went into a coma, and it looked like the end. But after the prayers of loved ones in the church and family, she miraculously came through. I remember seeing her in rehab shortly after that hospital episode, and the joy on her face was incredible. She was sharing the gospel with others in that facility.
She said, "Pastor, have I got a story to tell!" She described seeing things that were hard for her to put into words - she was describing heaven! It turned her from a good Christian woman into a flaming evangelist who wanted to tell anyone who would listen about heaven and hell and giving your life to Jesus.
You may not have that dramatic a story, but you do have a story. No one can take that away from you. There are three elements to your story: what you were saved from, how you gave your life to Jesus, and what Jesus has done for you since. Don't be ashamed to tell your story, because it is a story worth telling!
Reflection Question: How can you share your testimony about God's work in your life with others?
Dear Heavenly Father, give me the shepherds' enthusiasm for sharing the good news about Jesus. Help me find natural ways to tell others about what You have done in my life. Use my testimony to point others to Your love and salvation. Make me bold but sensitive as I share. In Jesus' Name, amen.
